How many players per team? Normally just 2 or 3 players. Only 2 players can be on the court at the same time during games.
What do I do after I signup? Only 1 person per team needs to register. They will pay the Team Fee of $80 and fill out all information.Once your team is listed on the website you'll then receive a confirmation email with the Junior Release and Rules document. Fill that out and bring the release form with you to be turned in to us the first night you are scheduled to play.
What if I'm a 3rd player on a team? Once your team has registered you will need to go to the registration page and pick the Third Player option to pay.
What is this all about? The purpose of the Jr Doubles league is to give players an opportunity to experience doubles volleyball similar to what they have seen during the Olympics on TV or sand courts at the beach. While we don't have the sand here we do have grass courts and (most of the time) warm sunshine to play under. There is no real coaching that takes place in this league. This is all about the players working together and figuring things out on their own. This gives them a chance to have some freedom, to go out and take what they have learned either on their school team or club team and put it into practice on their own. Yes we do offer assistance and will be happy to help the players when asked on a voluntary basis. If the players just want to do their thing that's fine too. This is their chance to just cut loose and have some fun competing and learning at the same time!
How does the league run or work? The season consists of 5 weeks of regular season play basically during the month of May and then playoffs to follow in June. Teams play 1 night a week either on Mon, Tue, or Wed and have 2 matches on the night they play at 6:30 and 7:30pm. That adds up to 10 matches in the season or 20 sets total. Playoffs normally are double elimination for all divisions. We do not play best 2 out of 3 for matches during the regular season, just 2 sets to 25 against each team. If a team splits their sets it will go down as a 1-1 tie in the score book. Playoff games are best 2 out of 3 with a 3rd set to 15 if needed.
What happens if it rains? In certain situations we actually do play in the rain! It’s a fun and exciting experience for players who have never done this before! Obviously we only do this if conditions are considered safe. If not, games are canceled and moved to a new night or can be made up by teams on their own whatever day or time they choose.
How flexible are you about playing games? We'd like games to be played at their scheduled times if at all possible but are flexible about making changes. We leave all schedule changes up to each individual team. They must contact the opposing team and work out a new date/time that is agreeable to that team. Obviously the more games moved the crazier it will get for you trying to manage it all. We do take requests during registration as to which night works best for your team and try to honor that as best we can.
